Adoption resources
Legal Assistance:
At a heightened point in our adoption, we had to reach out to Debbie Spivak, a renowned adoption lawyer in NJ, DE. and PA. We cannot say enough about how helpful, knowledgeable, resourceful, and patient she was during the process. Debbie knew the answer to every single question we had, told us the answers to questions we didn't know to ask, and educated us thoroughly about adoption procedures that had to have equaled a first year law course. And she answers emails faster that you can type your questions! Not only did she prove to be an invaluable resource during our first adoption, she was the one who called us about our second adoption! We would not have our daughter or our son without her involvement and help.
If you are in need of legal assistance, please contact Debbie. Also, you can search her website for helpful information to get you started. Even if you are not from one of the states she services, we are confident she will point you in the right direction.

Foster Care and Adoption Assistance:
We worked extremely closely with Theresa Broome, a social worker with Children and Families First. We wish there were another word for extremely that described how much involvement Theresa and her team had in our lives. We also wish that there were some way on this earth to repay her and thank her for the pivotal role she played in our adoption throughout almost every stage, particularly when things got tough. Theresa answered every single question we asked, even the ones that didn't seem to have answers; she was an ongoing personal support, and she provided invaluable assistance to us for almost two years.

Home Study and Adoption Assistance:
Beginning the adoption process is, to be honest, confusing and a bit scary. We had no idea where to begin, and we sought direction and support after we made the decision to pursue adoption to grow our family. We were directed to Missy Eberwein of The Children's Choice, Inc. Missy worked with us to complete the complex process of our home study paperwork (she walked us through every.single.step--and there were many), and Missy conducted our follow up visits after our approval for adoption. Each time she came, it was like welcoming a family member into our home. She listened to us, she asked us poignant questions, she supported us, and she even cried with us. After our daughter was placed with us, Missy worked with us for the two years it took to finalize our adoption. Our daughter loved Missy from the start and now our son loves her, too, as she worked with us from start to finish with his adoption as well. The Children's Choice, Inc. processed the paperwork for our home study approval and followed us through the adoption process to finalization.

Adoption Assistance:
Family Options, licensed in both New Jersey and Hawaii, is the agency we worked with during the adoption of our son. What an amazing, warm group of people! They were pro-active and encouraging, and they worked with us to make our entire experience with them a positive one. Our case manager, Christina, was actively engaged, and she answered each and every question--and trust me, there were quite a few--with both professionalism and empathy. From start to finish, Family Options treated us with respect and gentleness.

Fundraising Assistance:
When we first began our adoption journey, we had no idea where the money would come from except from the Lord. A dear friend introduced me to a website, www.youcaring.com, that enabled us to share our story through social networking sites and email with hundreds of friends, family members and even complete strangers who graciously, generously, and overwhelmingly took part in our adoption fundraising. In less than 48 hours we raised the funds we needed to complete our adoption. God richly blessed us through through the generosity and kindness of people who supported us, and every message they left on the website after donating left us crying with joy and gratitude. In fact, when we created our daughter's nursery, we printed off each note and created a banner around her room so that when she came home she would be surrounded by love. Now that she is older and notices details, we are able to read the notes left for her and us. What an encouragement and a reminder of how good God is and how much we are loved! We used YouCaring again for our son's adoption, and we love that we have messages for him as well.
We have been in touch with Youcaring and asked permission to share their site on ours. They were more than happy to allow us to do so.
